NAGALAND GOVERNOR VISITS TSEMINYU, REVIEWS DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

TSEMINYU, September 30: Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishor Yadav, visited Tseminyu district and held a meeting with district officers and representatives of civil society organisations at the DC’s Conference Hall, Tseminyu, on September 30, 2026.

Addressing the meeting, the Governor emphasised that although Tseminyu is a young district administratively, it is not a young society. He noted that it is the homeland of the Rengma Nagas, with a rich history, distinctive cultural traditions and a strong community institutional system.

The Governor urged district officers and civil society organisations to regularly visit the field, interact directly with the people and understand their difficulties. He also encouraged officials to closely monitor the implementation of flagship schemes, infrastructure projects and welfare programmes through regular field inspections, using technology and digital systems wherever possible.

Highlighting agriculture and allied activities as important sources of livelihood, Yadav said Tseminyu has considerable potential in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, poultry and other allied sectors. He encouraged the district administration and concerned departments to identify locally suitable products, develop producers’ groups and self-help groups, facilitate processing and packaging, and connect local products with markets within and outside Nagaland.

Stressing that education is the foundation of long-term development, the Governor said healthcare must also remain a priority. He called for effective functioning of primary healthcare institutions and availability of essential services, particularly in remote and rural areas.

The Governor further emphasised the importance of electricity, drinking water, roads and digital connectivity as essential components of development. He also stressed the need to improve the quality of infrastructure and services to promote tourism through cultural experiences and other community-based initiatives.

Giving an overview of the district, Deputy Commissioner, Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, informed that Tseminyu became a district on February 24, 2022. He highlighted challenges arising from shortages of officers, as well as the lack of a hospital and college. He also informed that Tseminyu had been declared a Piggery District during a DPDB meeting and emphasised the urgent need for road, infrastructure and digital connectivity development.

President of the Rengma Hoho, Gwasinlo Thong, appealed for job reservation for the Rengma community and highlighted the challenges faced by students due to the absence of a college in the district, compelling them to travel to other districts for higher studies.

MLA and Chairman, DPDB, Ar. Jwenga Seb, delivered the welcome address. The programme was chaired by EAC, Tseminyu, Molosangla Ozukum, and concluded with departmental presentations by KVK, Land Resources, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti.
