CONSTRUCTION OF KOHIMA MULTI-DISCIPLINARY SPORTS CENTRE INSPECTED
KOHIMA, October 22: Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Vipul Aggarwal, and Nagaland Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner Y. Kikheto Sema inspected the ongoing construction of the Kohima Multi-disciplinary Sports Centre at the IG Stadium Complex, Kohima, on Thursday in the presence of engineers and officials of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.
During the inspection, Aggarwal expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project. He recalled that during his previous visit in May 2026, the site was still at the development stage, with little visible progress. He appreciated the work completed over the past five months and commended the department for its efforts.
Aggarwal also acknowledged the role of Kikheto in conducting timely review meetings with departments and monitoring the progress of ongoing projects.
Kikheto assured DoNER that the Planning and Transformation Department would continue to regularly review and monitor all 71 ongoing projects funded by DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC) to ensure their timely completion.
He informed that the sports centre project was sanctioned on October 27, 2025, at a total cost of ₹72.59 crore. Of this amount, ₹17.62 crore has been released by the Government of India and subsequently disbursed to the contractor.
Responding to a query on the expected completion date, an engineer from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports said the work was progressing as scheduled and the project was expected to be completed by January 20, 2028, as stipulated in the Detailed Project Report (DPR). (DIPR)
