TIPAIMUKH MLA, CSO DELEGATION CALL ON CM KHEMCHAND, RAISE ROAD, POWER AND BANKING ISSUES
IMPHAL, September 30 (NEPS): Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, along with representatives of various civil society organisations (CSOs) from Pherzawl district, called on Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Chief Minister’s Bungalow today and apprised him of various issues and grievances concerning the people of the area.
Pherzawl district shares its borders with Assam and Mizoram and is predominantly inhabited by the Hmar community.
The delegation raised issues concerning road connectivity, electricity, banking services and the establishment of the Pherzawl Autonomous District Council (ADC), and sought the Chief Minister’s intervention in addressing the difficulties faced by the people.
On road connectivity, the delegation sought the upgradation of the Jiribam–Tipaimukh road, currently a district road, to National Highway status. They stated that the road would provide an important link between NH-37 and NH-102 and improve connectivity between Jiribam, Tipaimukh and adjoining areas.
Regarding power connectivity, the delegation sought the proposed power-line connection from Sipuikaun Power Station to Parbung, besides extending electricity supply to other areas through proposed power-line connections.
The delegation also highlighted the need for establishing a banking facility in the area, stating that the absence of banking services has caused considerable difficulties for the people.
The representatives further raised issues concerning the proposed Pherzawl Autonomous District Council (ADC) and conveyed the concerns and aspirations of the people regarding its establishment.
Responding to the delegation, Chief Minister Khemchand emphasised that peace should come first, stating that restoration of peace and stability is essential for taking forward development and administrative processes. He assured the delegation that the issues raised would be examined and necessary action taken.
The delegation comprised representatives of ITAC Pherzawl & Jiribam, Hmar Inpui Hmarram Region and Hmar Inpui Vangai Region, including Hrlihmingthang Buhril, Secretary, ITAC Pherzawl & Jiribam; Upa Ramdinglien, President, Hmar Inpui Hmarram Region; Zaihmingthang, Secretary, Hmar Inpui Hmarram Region; and Rothangkhum, President, Hmar Inpui Vangai Region.
It may be recalled that a peace initiative involving representatives of the Meitei and Hmar communities, held in Jiribam district in April in the presence of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has contributed to maintaining peace and harmony between the two communities, who have continued to live together peacefully since then.
