STATE LEVEL SWACHHATA HI SEVA 2026 LAUNCHED
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 17: The State-level Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign was officially launched at the Directorate of Urban Development, Kohima, on September 17, 2026. The campaign, organised by Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Urban Development, and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), PHED, will continue till October 2, 2026, observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas.
Speaking at the launch, Director, Urban Development, Tarachu Fithu, said October 2 is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. As a prelude to the occasion, the fortnight-long Swachhata Hi Seva campaign has been observed since 2017 to strengthen voluntarism and collective action towards a Clean India.
He said the annual campaign, held from September 17 to October 2, seeks to mobilise widespread citizen action and ownership for cleanliness.
As part of SHS 2026, five pillars of activities will be undertaken by local bodies, State governments, line departments and public sector enterprises. These include Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Clean Public Places; Swachh Paathshala (Clean Institutions of Learning) and Yuva for Swachhata (Youth for Cleanliness); SafaiMitra Suraksha Seva Evam Samman Shivir (Sanitation Workers’ Safety, Service and Respect Camps); Jan Bhaagidari for Swachhata (People’s Participation for Cleanliness); and Swachhata Se Samriddhi (Wealth from Cleanliness).
Fithu stressed that active participation of line departments is essential for the successful implementation of SHS 2026, as sanitation and cleanliness require a “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” approach.
He further informed that a State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) has been constituted with representatives from stakeholder departments and agencies, including Urban Development, PHED, Forest & Environment, Health & Family Welfare, Tourism, School Education, Higher & Technical Education, Information and Public Relations, Rural Development, Municipal Affairs, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, NGOs and civil society organisations, as well as State and Central Missions.
Fithu said the campaign will be conducted across Nagaland from September 17 to October 2, with all stakeholder departments participating in their assigned roles. Activities undertaken under the campaign will be monitored, documented and uploaded on the designated portal.
Meanwhile, Commissioner & Secretary, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Kekhrievor Kevichusa, formally launched Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and administered the Swachhata Hi Seva pledge.
