Theja Rio Gets Warm Homecoming in Delhi Days After Historic TIFF Win
KOHIMA, Sept 23: Film director Theja Rio was received by Angami Krotho Delhi and well-wishers on his arrival from Toronto at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, on 22nd September 2026.
Naga filmmaker Theja Rio’s debut feature Angh won the prestigious Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival — the only Indian film selected for the competition this year.
The win gives Angh a direct pathway to consideration in the International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars (99th Academy Awards, March 14, 2027).
In his acceptance speech, Rio dedicated the win to people back home, saying he comes from a small town in Northeast India where dreams don’t often come true for his people, and called it “just the beginning.”
