GOVERNOR REVIEWS FUNCTIONING OF NAGALAND PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 22: Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav reviewed the functioning of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) during a meeting with Commission officials at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on September 22, 2026.
During the meeting, NPSC officials presented an overview of the Commission’s history, organisational structure, manpower position and functioning. The presentation covered its examination activities, Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings, ongoing initiatives, achievements, challenges and future plans.
The Commission informed that during 2025–2026, it conducted examinations for various services, including the Nagaland Civil Services and Allied Services Examination, NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Medical Services Examination, Technical Services Examination and Stenographer Examination. The NCS & Allied Services Examination received 16,433 applications, while the NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination received 5,813 applications.
On the functioning of the DPC, the Commission informed that from April to August 2026, it cleared 444 cases, comprising 163 promotion cases and 281 regularisation cases.
The NPSC also highlighted initiatives to strengthen its examination system, including revisions to the syllabi and examination patterns for the NCS, NPS and allied services. The revisions seek to align the examinations with evolving standards and strengthen the assessment of candidates’ analytical ability, general awareness and administrative aptitude. The revised syllabus and examination pattern for the Combined Technical Services Examination were also presented.
The Commission further highlighted its adoption of technology and digital processes. It informed that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had awarded it a Certificate of Appreciation for successfully integrating its recruitment portals with DigiLocker. According to the Commission, Nagaland became the first State in Northeast India and the third State in India to implement both DigiLocker and eSign models, supporting paperless governance and digital public service delivery.
The meeting also discussed challenges arising from the growing number of candidates appearing for examinations, including the shortage of suitable examination centres, the need for additional manpower and the requirement for larger examination facilities. The Commission emphasised the need to strengthen its staff and examination infrastructure to meet these growing requirements.
Looking ahead, the NPSC outlined plans to introduce a three-tier examination process for the Combined Technical Services Examination, enable online submission of requisitions by departments and construct an examination hall at the NPSC complex.
The review meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the Commission’s functioning and its ongoing efforts to strengthen recruitment and examination processes in Nagaland.
