Nagaland Govt Announces ₹4 Lakh Ex-Gratia for Mon Landslide Victims, Appeals for Vigilance
KOHIMA, July 19: The Government of Nagaland has expressed profound grief over the tragic landslide that struck Mon Town at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, claiming precious lives and causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
In a statement, the Government conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
The Government said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation caused by the ongoing extreme weather affecting several parts of the State. Besides Mon district, Tuli Sub-Division in Mokokchung district and other areas have also been severely impacted by landslides, flash floods, road blockages, and damage to public and private infrastructure.
It stated that the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), District Administrations, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police, and other line departments are working round the clock to carry out search and rescue operations, evacuate vulnerable residents, restore essential services, and provide immediate relief to affected people.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio has announced an immediate ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person and ₹74,000 to every injured person. The Government also said that affected families across the impacted districts would receive relief assistance, including food, temporary shelter, essential commodities, and other eligible support.
The Government has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure seamless inter-departmental coordination for timely emergency response, restoration of connectivity, and rehabilitation of affected communities. It added that continuous assessment of the situation is underway and additional assistance will be mobilized wherever necessary.
Meanwhile, the public has been advised to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable slopes, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas, strictly follow advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home Department and district administrations, cooperate with emergency response agencies, and refrain from circulating unverified information or rumours.
Reiterating its commitment to the affected people, the Government said it stands with all families impacted by the disaster and will continue to extend every possible assistance to ensure timely relief and restore normalcy at the earliest. (DIPR)
