TRAINING ON SCIENTIFIC BEEKEEPING HELD

KOHIMA, Jul 28: Lengnyu Village in the Noklak district hosted a training programme on Scientific Beekeeping as part of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) on July 27, 2023,. The Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) planned the event. Phem Shiu and Francis Kikon from NBHM were the trainers’ resource people.

Phem Shiu emphasised the value of beekeeping while also highlighting its ability to generate revenue for daily living. He urged all the beekeepers to put in more effort and use contemporary Scientific Beekeeping methods in order to produce more honey of the highest calibre, especially those from Lengnyu village. He promised the beekeepers that NBHM will assist them in any manner possible.

Francis Kikon discussed the advantages of adopting Scientific Beekeeping Boxes, which can produce more honey and allow for numerous harvests throughout the year, during the training. He went in-depth on bee behaviour and contemporary beekeeping techniques. The handling of honey after harvest and its packaging were also discussed in the training. Techniques for increasing honey production and harvesting it effectively with the use of machines without endangering bee hives received special consideration.

All of the participants got to practise their skills during the session. Beneficiaries also received scientific bee hives and other required supplies. (IA Noklak)
