Nagaland Chief Secretary asks banks to open branches in unbanked RD block areas

KOHIMA, Jul 10 (NEPS): Nagaland Chief Secretary, J Alam said Nagaland had 25 RD Blocks without any bank branches and added that they were some of the major challenges.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the Opening of the SBI Treasury Branch Kohima at the New Capital Complex, Kohima on 10 July 2023, the Chief Secretary informed that many banks had already been given the tasks to meet the targets by opening branches in the 25 RD Blocks where the banking facilities were not there.

“I am told that they are yet to open the branches considering that the most of the flagship schemes of the Government of India are now in the form of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),” he said. “So that DBT should take place through the bank branches only, he said. “Without which, schemes do not succeed.”

Alam said the Government of India was also working out for some alternative arrangements to reach the benefits to the people directly. “I am told that a number of initiatives are going on in that direction,” he added.

Congratulating the SBI Team for opening the SBI Treasury Branch Kohima at the New Capital Complex, Kohima, Alam expressed the hope that they would continue to support the State Government in their initiatives and in their common objective by providing the best services for the welfare of their people.
