Nagaland is behind industrial development, manufacturing units, production, generating opportunities for youth: Moatoshi Longkumer

KOHIMA, Jun 20: Advisor for Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise, Nagaland, Moatoshi Longkumer said Nagaland was behind in the areas of industrial development, manufacturing units, production, and generating employment opportunities for the younger generation.

He said this at the Workshop on Apprenticeship held at Capital Convention Centre Kohima Nagaland on 20 June 2023.

The program was initiated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, and organized by the Directorate of Regional Director RDSDE, NE States.

The Advisor talked about the importance of apprenticeship in their society and added that it was “a powerful tool that can shift the future of industries and economies.”

“It provides a unique learning experience and offers training and practical knowledge that guarantees experienced professionals, and this combination will produce a successful career,” he added.

Apprenticeship reduced the skill gap that existed in many industries in today’s randomly evolving world; there was a need for skilled workers who could adapt to technological advancement, he said. It also fostered a culture of lifelong learning by promoting beyond the formal education but extended throughout the career and also constantly acquired new skills and adapted towards the changing technologies which industries require or need, he added.

Mathivanan Regional Director RDSDE, NE States, in his keynote address, gave a background of the National Apprenticeship Scheme in relation to The Apprentices Act 1961 with the objective of regulating the programme of training of apprentices in the industries by utilizing the facilities available therein for imparting on-the-job training. He also mentioned the designated trades and optional trades and apprenticeship eligibility; also on the mandatory contract between the establishment and the apprentice, stipends, and benefits for employees.

Hokuli Chairperson of CII (Nagaland State Council) mentioned that by investing in apprenticeships, Nagaland can unlock the potential of its youth, drive economic growth and create a sustainable future for the state.

Sushil Kumar Patel, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland gave the welcome address while Nazimuddin Barbruiya Assistant Director RDSDE concluded the program with the votes of thanks

Technical sessions on NAPS reformation, Apprenticeship portal walkthrough, and question and answer interaction were also held.
