KOHIMA, Aug 4: The 20th Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region, Zone-III took place in Shillong, Meghalaya from July 30 to August 1, 2023. The Inaugural Address was delivered by Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha.
Sharingain Longkumer, the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, as well as K. G. Kenye, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs & Power, Wezope Kenye, IAS, the Commissioner & Secretary of Parliamentary Affairs, Khruohituonuo Rio, the Secretary-In-Charge of the NLA, and several members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, attended the event.
Speaker Sharingain Longkumer took part in discussions at the plenary session on two important issues: regional connectivity to bring the North East Region up to par with the rest of India and natural disasters and strategies for management with particular reference to the North East Region.
Speaker Longkumer stressed the value of boosting energy production, particularly renewable energy, and regional connectivity throughout his participation. According to projections from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, the North East Region has the capacity to produce up to 129 Gigawatts of green energy. He recommended that by setting up special power purchase tariffs for power deficit states in the region, the Union Government, through the Ministry of Power, might play a crucial role. This would make it possible for these states—including Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland—to use power purchase savings to increase the production of renewable energy. (DIPR)
