KOHIMA, Jul 18 (NEPS): Thousands of fingerling fish were released into the Dikhu River (Green Zone) on July 18, 2023, as part of a River Ranching Awareness Programme organised by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in partnership with the Tzula (Dikhu) Green Zone Project Management Committee (TGZPMC).
The Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Rongsenungba, gave thanks to the villages of Ungma and Longsa for their admirable initiatives during the occasion. The most effective method to stop global warming, he emphasised, is to protect the ecosystem.
He praised the two villages’ foresight in designating the Dikhu River (within their boundaries) as a Green Zone and emphasised its importance in reducing climate change and global warming on a global scale. He also encouraged the villages to completely ban fishing, especially during the three-month breeding season, and to apply strong penalties for unethical fishing.
The chairman of the village councils of Ungma and Longsa each gave a brief address at the event. The welcoming message was given by Imliyanger, Chairman of TGZPMC, while Temsutoshi Longkumer, Finance Secretary of TGZPMC, proposed the vote of gratitude. Sangkong, President of USTM, delivered the benediction after Molodongba, President of MTLST, led the invocation. (Mokokchung and IA)
