RIO URGES LOTHA COMMUNITY TO PRESERVE CULTURE, WORK FOR PEACE AND PROGRESS
KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 7: Highlighting the richness of Lotha culture, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio emphasized the importance of preserving and passing down traditions to future generations. Referring to Wokha district as a land “rich in beauty, resources, resilience and potential,” he noted that the Lotha community ranks high in per capita income and human development indicators.
Dr. Rio was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Kohima Lotha Hoho, held with grandeur and cultural vibrancy at the NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima, on November 7, 2025. The celebration also coincided with Tokhü Emong, the premier festival of the Lotha community, held under the theme “Future-Ready Reasoning.”
The landmark event brought together tribal leaders, elders, youth, and well-wishers from across districts, showcasing a spirit of unity, pride, and community progress.
In his address, the Chief Minister lauded the community’s hardworking and innovative spirit, describing it as an inspiration to others. He expressed hope for enduring peace and urged the people to channel their energy and resources toward meaningful and constructive pursuits.
Addressing the gathering as Guest of Honour, Deputy Chief Minister for Home and Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton, extended warm greetings and urged the youth to work hard, pursue knowledge, and rise above divisive “isms” while upholding unity, forgiveness, and harmony for the progress of Nagaland. He noted the special significance of the Golden Jubilee coinciding with Tokhü Emong and expressed gratitude for the Lotha community’s steadfast support to the state government.
Dr. Rio also officially launched a book titled “The Divine in the Ordinary” written by Sentienla P. Ezung following the formal programme.
Other highlights included a special song titled “A Lotha” presented by Eyilobeni Kikon, a theme song by the Jubilee Choir, and a cultural dance by the Lotsu Village Cultural Troupe. Short speeches were delivered by representatives from Lotha Hoho Oking, Lotha Officers’ Association Kohima, and Lotha Ekie Ekhung.
Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor for School Education and SCERT Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan, Dr. Chumben Murry (Advisor to the Chief Minister), MLAs Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Achumbemo Kikon, Advisor for Prisons, Printing & Stationery Er. Kropol Vitsu, along with church and tribal leaders, attended the occasion.
