NAGALAND TO OBSERVE REMEMBRANCE DAY ON NOVEMBER 11
Nagaland will join the rest of the world in observing Remembrance Day on November 11, 2025, to honour the immense sacrifices of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women during the World Wars and subsequent conflicts across the globe.
The observance, initiated by the State Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), serves as a solemn reminder of the human cost of war and reinforces the shared commitment to peace.
Remembrance Day stands as a poignant tribute to those who died or suffered in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. It is an occasion to reflect on the courage and sacrifices made by countless individuals in defence of freedom and humanity.
A release from the Home Department stated that the first formal observance held last year was a significant occasion that witnessed the participation of the United Kingdom, represented by the British Deputy High Commissioner. The programme further strengthened the growing ties between the people of Nagaland and the United Kingdom.
Following its success, the annual ceremony has now become an important part of the State Government’s official calendar, offering a befitting tribute to those who laid down their lives during the Battle of Kohima—one of the most decisive battles of World War II—and reaffirming Kohima’s enduring place in world history.
This year’s event will be held on the morning of November 11, 2025, at the Kohima War Cemetery, with Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio as the Special Guest and Mr. Bhaarat Dave, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, as the Honoured Guest.
Attendees will include representatives from the Embassies of the United Kingdom and Ireland, legislators, senior officials, personnel from the armed forces and police, war veterans, and other invitees. The programme will also feature book and flower stalls, musical performances, and the flagging off of a Vintage Cars Rally by the Flatbenders Club.
An evening segment will follow at the Banquet Hall, Hotel Vivor, Kohima, from 5:00 PM onwards, featuring a special conversation on “The Battle of Kohima: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.” Speakers will include Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, and Mmhonlumo Kikon, politician, poet, and author.
The evening will conclude with music and dinner, bringing together scholars, writers, academicians, media professionals, and dignitaries from diverse fields to commemorate the day.
