ONGOING LIVING MORUNG AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE INITIATIVE AT SEYOCHUNG AND KIUSAM

KIPHIRE, Feb 28: As part of the ongoing Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge initiative, the Department of Art and Culture, Nagaland organised a series of programmes at Kiusam village and Seyochung under Kiphire district on February 21 and 26, 2026, respectively.

The programme at Kiusam village on February 21 was held on the theme “Traditional Crafting and Weaving.” K. Rechongkiu spoke on traditional crafting, while T. L. Khianmongshe shared insights on weaving practices. T. Khaintsu narrated a folk tale during the event. WK Merenba, VCC, graced the occasion as the special guest. Villagers from Metonger and Chikiponger also attended the programme.

A second programme was conducted at Seyochung on February 26 on the topic “Traditional Farming.” Thsachomong and Lirise served as resource persons, while Tsichomong, GB, attended as the special guest and narrated a folk tale. Participants from Thangthure and Yangzitong villages were also present.

The Seyochung programme featured a display of traditional farming implements and indigenous crops. The formal session was followed by a hands-on field demonstration, where youths were taught and shown indigenous farming methods.

Speaking at both programmes, Moses Newmai, District Cultural Officer, Kiphire, elaborated on the concept and objectives of the Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge initiative, emphasising the importance of preserving and transmitting indigenous knowledge to younger generations.
