COMMISSIONER & SECRETARY ORENTHUNG LOTHA, IAS, INAUGURATES IPR OFFICE BUILDING AT TSEMINYU
TSEMINYU, FEBRUARY 24: Commissioner & Secretary, Information & Public Relations and Cooperation, Government of Nagaland, Orenthung Lotha, IAS, on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed Office Building of the Department of Information & Public Relations (IPR) at Tseminyu, describing it as a major step in strengthening district-level information infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering as Special Guest, Lotha termed Tseminyu a vibrant and promising district and said the new IPR office stands among the finest departmental establishments in the districts. He urged officials and the public to make optimal use of the facility to enhance communication, transparency and public service delivery.
He acknowledged the contributions of former Advisor, IPR, Late Imkong L. Imchen, and Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio in supporting the project.
Emphasizing the importance of the forthcoming census, Lotha called upon citizens to provide accurate and truthful information, stating that reliable census data forms the backbone of policy-making and development planning. He cautioned that inaccurate data could adversely affect resource allocation and deprive deserving sections of benefits.
Highlighting the evolving role of the IPR Department, he underscored the need for responsive, verified and timely dissemination of information. In an era dominated by social media, he said, misinformation can spread rapidly, making it imperative for the government to communicate authenticated and constructive information through print, electronic and digital platforms.
The Commissioner & Secretary also informed that the Government is planning to establish the Nagaland Integrated Information System, under which Tseminyu will function as one of the district information hubs. The proposed system will consolidate data from various departments under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner and district administration, ensuring public access to credible and up-to-date information.
Deputy Commissioner, Tseminyu, Japhet Woch, NCS, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for the timely completion of the project. Referring to the district’s recent formation, he noted that several infrastructure initiatives have been undertaken, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, SP Office, staff quarters and other establishments. He said the IPR Office building was completed in record time, attributing the achievement to the commitment of contractors and timely release of funds.
Woch urged all departments to function with the mindset of a full-fledged district and emphasized proactive governance, accurate data generation and meaningful public engagement. He stressed that in the age of social media, departments must ensure that only factual and verified information is disseminated.
The programme was chaired by Atuzo Peseyie, District Public Relations Officer, Kohima. Assistant Director, IPR, Meghasha Tep presented the district profile of the Tseminyu IPR Office. Pastor of Tseminyu Town Baptist Church, Yhunthonglo Khing, offered the dedicatory prayer, while Yhunbwenle Tep presented a special song.
Senior officials of the IPR Department, ADC Tseminyu Mhomo Tungoe, IPR staff from Tseminyu and the Directorate, contractors and other invited guests attended the programme. (DPRO Kohima)
