Advisor Reviews Kohima Dumpsite Remediation
KOHIMA, Feb 4: Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, visited the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site at Dzürüzou, Meriema, on Tuesday to review the ongoing legacy waste remediation work under SBM (U) 2.0’s Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP).
He was accompanied by Mission Director, SBM (Urban), Kezhochole Rhetso, and officials of the Kohima Municipal Council.
The Mission Director and KMC officials briefed the Advisor on the progress of the works being carried out to make Kohima a dumpsite-free city, adding that the project is being implemented within the timeline set by the Ministry.
Dr. Yhome urged the concerned officials to expedite the remediation work and ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe. He also appealed to the public to cooperate by adopting proper waste management practices, especially through waste segregation at the household level.
He stressed that segregation of waste into biodegradable, non-biodegradable and hazardous categories is essential for effective collection and scientific disposal. He added that public participation and responsible waste disposal habits are crucial for maintaining cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability. (DPRO Kohima)
