First Minority Affairs Awareness Programme Held in Wokha
WOKHA, Jan 27: The Directorate of Minority Affairs, Nagaland, organized its first Awareness and Sensitization Programme at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on January 27, 2026, to apprise stakeholders of constitutional provisions and various developmental schemes available to minority communities at both the national and state levels.
The programme began with a welcome address by ADC Wokha, Renbomo Ezung. Delivering the keynote address, Joint Director of Minority Affairs, Andrew C. Imti, emphasized the need to empower minority communities through access to government schemes and highlighted their vital role in promoting inclusive growth and strengthening democratic values.
A series of PowerPoint presentations were delivered by officials of the Minority Affairs Department. Programme Assistant Khriezotuolie spoke on Micro-Credit Schemes under the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), explaining how concessional loans are provided to economically weaker sections of minority communities to encourage self-employment and income generation.
LDA Lily Tungoe presented on the Minority Scholarship Scheme, which supports students from minority backgrounds in pursuing education at various levels. Project Officer Shalo Khing gave a detailed presentation on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at creating infrastructure and community assets in minority-concentrated areas to promote socio-economic development.
Assistant Project Officer Thejavizo Rio presented on PM VIKAS (Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samriddhi), a programme designed to provide skill training, financial support and market linkages to artisans and craftsmen from minority communities to enhance livelihood opportunities.
The programme was chaired by Project Officer Shalo Khing. Heads of government departments in Wokha district and chairmen of village councils from across the district attended the programme and participated in discussions on effective grassroots implementation of the schemes.
This awareness and sensitization programme marked the first such initiative by the Directorate of Minority Affairs in Wokha district. The department informed that similar programmes will be conducted in other districts in the coming months to ensure wider outreach and participation. (DPRO & IA Wokha)
