Opposition NPF to boycott “consultative meeting” on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 convened by NDPP-led PDA Government at Chumukedima

KOHIMA, Jan 30 (NEPS): Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) said they would boycott the “consultative meeting” on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016, convened by NDPP-led PDA Government on January 31, 2019 at the Rhododendron Hall, Central Police Officers Mess, Chumukedima, Dimapur.

This resolution was unanimously adopted in a meeting by Core Committee of NPF held at the residential office of NPF President, Kohima, today.

The resolution further explained that NDPP-led PDA Government had not opposed the Bill when it was tabled on the Floor of Parliament on January 6, 2019.  “It is clear indication that they have endorsed the Bill in totality,” it said.

Therefore, the NDPP-led PDA Government had no moral right whatsoever to convene a consultative meeting either with political parties or civil societies on the CAB issue, the resolution said. It further said the intention of the NDPP-led PDA Government in convening the consultative meet on January 31 at Chumukeddima, Dimapur “is nothing but an eyewash and to shift the blame to the political parties and civil societies.”

The resolution also disclosed that NPF was monitoring the political development and the role of the BJP-led Government in Manipur on the CAB issue. It further said they would seriously examine the coalition status in the state of Manipur.
