IMPHAL, Jan 28 (IFP): Two persons including one minor died while another minor received injury in a rather unusual incident which occurred today at Madrasa Mazharul Uloom located at Bengoon, Mayang Imphal, Manipur.
According to sources, the incident occurred today at about 2.40 pm when the septic tank of the school toilet exploded suddenly while the pipelines were being checked for a leakage of odour.
The deceased have been identified as one vice chairman of the Madrasa, Md. Latif ,50, son of late Md. Aoudrana of Beengon; Md. Huissan, 13, son of Ravizuddin of Keirao and one minor identified as Md. Mustakin, 15, son of late Tomba of Beengun was injured.
It is said that the toilet has been constructed about 10 years ago. Students of the Madrasa made a complaint to the authority that a stinking odour was coming from the toilet. To check the problem, Latif went to monitor the pipeline and while he was checking it the two minor was observing the inspection inside the toilet.
Suddenly the septic tank went into a blast and with its impact the walls of the toilet fell down towards the three persons. It is also said that there are separate chambers of about 10 toilets constructed one after another consecutively of about 60 feet in total length. With the impact of the blast, most of the walls of the toilet collapsed on top of the three persons.
During the incident, Latif and Huissan died on the spot while Mustakin was injured and rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Science emergency ward for medical treatment.
Speaking to media, joint secretary of the Madrasa, Md. Habibulah urged the government to look over the incident and give necessary assistance to the family members of the deceased and the injured minor. Madrasa authority expressed condolences for the deceased and the injured.
