IMPHAL, Jan 8 (IFP): Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has stated that the passing of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at Lok Sabha today has clearly shown India government’s double standards employed to the people of northeast from the rest. The passing of the bill has proven that a scheme is being carried out to swallow up the lesser populated areas of the northeast region by providing Indian citizenship to illegal immigrants coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan etc, said a release. With the agenda to annihilate the small communities settling in the northeast region, the Indian government had already imposed many black laws such as the draconian, AFSPA – 1958 in the name of counterinsurgency and the lives of many innocents have been claimed, it alleged. As the implementation of divide and rule policy along with many strong strategies based of religion has failed to bring the desired results, the Indian government has now resorted to passing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 so that the northeast region can be finally swallowed up by sending in a human force of illegal immigrants, it further alleged. While stating that MSF had been extending moral support to the steps initiated by North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) along with many student organisation of northeast, the release further stated that MSF is deeply concerned with the happenings at Khumulwung in Tripura state, West Tripura, and the clashes which occurred between police and volunteers of All Tripura Indigenous Students’ Association (ATISA) and the youth wing of Indigenous Tripassa People’s Front (ITPF) where live bullets were allegedly fired upon the volunteers by the police, injuring more than 18 person and critically injuring more than 6 persons. The incident clearly shows that the India government and the Mainland India do not consider about the human rights of the Indigenous Peoples of the northeast, it alleged. The organisation will morally and physically support the steps undertaken against Bill, it said. MSF further appealed the people to wake up and join in with the student organisations, CVOs, etc of northeast to launch a massive revolt against the bill, it added.
