IMPHAL, Dec 17 (IFP): Special judge, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND and PS) further remanded the arrested deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Takhellambam Bangkabihari to police custody for three days.
The DSP posted at SIT unit Manipur Police was arrested on December 11 morning form his Uripok Achom Leikai residence by a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) for allegedly involving in trafficking of 2 kilogram of brown sugar worth Rs.2.4 crore in the international market.
It is reported that the DSP was arrested following disclosure by one Khumujam Robindro, 46, of Mayang Imphal who was arrested by NAB on October 28 with two kilos of brown sugar from Konung Mamang in Imphal East.
Robindro, in his statement, stated that he received information that his friend (Bangkabihari) has some kilograms of brown sugar with him at Jiribam Police station. After several round of meetings between them, the DSP brought two kilos of brown sugar and delivered to him at his residence on October 16 for disposal, he added.
The DSP was produced today before the court by the investigation officer (IO) of the case as his police remand period ended today.
While producing the accused, the IO prayed to further remand the accused to police custody for five days for further investigation of the case and the court has remanded the accused to police custody for only three days.
