KOHIMA, Nov 26 (NEPS): Officials of the 15th Finance Commission (FCC) led by Chairman, Nand Kishore Singh will be arriving at Kohima tomorrow.

The FCC Officials will have a series of meetings with the representatives of Rural Local Bodies – VCMs and VDBs and also Urban Local Bodies and Tribal Hohos at the Hotel Vivor on the same day.

Briefing the press about their three-day visit to the State, State Finance Secretary, Y Kikheto Sema disclosed that the Commission would also have meetings with Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and the State Government officials on November 28 at 10 AM, with representatives of the political parties at 2:40 PM and with representatives of Trade, Industries & Commerce at 15:30 PM in the Conference Hall of the Chief Secretary.

Sema disclosed that for the first time, the Commission will address the press conference at the end of their meetings at the Hotel Vivor at 16:40 PM on November 28. “In the past, no press conference was held by any visiting Finance Commission officials,” he said.

It may be mentioned that the recommendations of the 15th FC will cover the period from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025. The recommendations of the FC are crucial for a resource constraint state like Nagaland which entirely depends on the grants from the central government.

The Finance Secretary refused to elaborate much on the Government of Nagaland’s Memorandum and the Supplementary Memorandum they earlier submitted to the Commission. “It is for the Commission to reply on the Memoranda submitted by us during the meeting,” he said and further stated that the press persons would have privilege to ask the Commission anything they wish during the press conference.

He, however, admitted that the 15th FC had agreed to accept any supplementary Memorandum if the need arises.

Sema also disclosed that on the last day of their visit on November 29, they would make a field visit to Touphema Tourist Village in the morning. They will leave for Imphal on the same day by helicopter.
