KOHIMA, Oct 25: Myki Fest 2018 an event to celebrate women entrepreneurs, artisans, artistes, cultivators and SHGs began a two-day long event at Training cum Production Center (old Directorate premises) Bayavu Kohima on 25 October 2018. The fest is organized by the Department of Women Resource Development to sell the product and produce of SHGs from all the districts of Nagaland.
‘Naga women are the backbone of our economy’ said Commissioner & Secretary WRD & Civil Supplies, N. Hushili Sema, IAS inaugurating the Myki fest 2018. She stated that Naga women should live in pride as they play an important role in sustaining the economy of the state and also the family. She encouraged women to work harder and be more innovative so as to rise their standard of living. She also remarked that this may be the first kind of such event but similar programs will be organized which will be more inclusive. She congratulated all the participants and urged all to work sincerely and strive towards a better future.
Director WRD, Khrienuo Tachü delivering her keynote address said that the Myki fest which is first of its kind event in the state is bringing so many people specially women together. She also stated during 2009-10 when Transformative Livelihood Intervention (TLI) women SHGs were starting to produce goods, the department then decided to dedicate a name to all products and produces to make them more visible and facilitate easier market linkages. She added that after thorough deliberation the department came up with the name Myki which simply means women or girls in the Nagamese. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly makers, growers and weavers for making Myki brand a household name.
The program was chaired by Assistant Director WRD, Melunglungbo Zeliang. Prayer was invoked by Monchamo Lotha Pastor KLBC.
Highlights of the fest include display & sales of fresh local fruits & vegetables, local jewelry, apparels & accessories, home furnishing and fast food. SHGs like Rolong’s Creation, (IDRC Dimapur), My Green Garden (Succulents and cacti) Kohima, Manli’s Handloom and Handicrafts (Mon), M/S Native Beads (Kohima), Akolie Beads and Necklace (Kohima), Precious me love (IDRC Dimapur), Quirky Quarts (IDRC DIMAPUR), MYKI are participating in the event. Earlier Commissioner & Secretary WRD & Civil Supplies, N. Hushili Sema, IAS officially inaugurated the two day long fest (25th & 26th October 2018) and inspected the stalls set up by the SHGs.
