CCDP talks about various schemes for Persons with Disabilities

KOHIMA, Jul 9 (NEPS): Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India conducted several camps for distribution of Aids & Appliances under ADIP Scheme and about 10 lakh persons with disabilities benefited. Around Rs. 650 crore was spent on it.

Briefing press people here at the Hotel Vivor on Monday, Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pandey, Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD), said his office already conducted monitoring funds released by the Central Government. During the financial year 2016-17 & 2017-18, CCPD conducted monitoring of funds disbursed under ADIP/DDRS at Assam (Bongaigoan), Maharashtra (Mumbai, Pune, Nashik), Sundernagar (Himachal Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Faridabad (Haryana), he added.


Dr Pandey disclosed that the Government of India selected 50 cities under Accessible Indian Campaign. “100 buildings in each of these cities will be made accessible,” he added.


Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 came into force from 19 April 2017. Under the new Act, categories of disabilities have now become 21 in place of 7. Reservation of jobs has also been enhanced to 4% in place of the existing 3% apart from various other facilities/benefits under the new Act.

Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) can also file their complaints as per Rule 38(1) of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017 before the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities through Email – ccpd@nic.in.
