13 persons kidnaped along NH- 37 for ransom

TAMENGLONG | May 17 (IFP): With an aim to lessen the kidnapping for ransom of money along National Highway-37 Imphal- Jiribam, a ‘threat analysis along NH- 37’ was held at Assam Rifles camp complex, Bonlongdai village under Nungba Police station.

The programme was organised by 23 Assam Rifles, Tamenglong battalion. Commandant of 23 AR, col Chinmaya Verma, additional superintendent of police and NH- 37 in-charge Luikham Lanmiyo, SDPO Tousem Md Abdul Kalam, assistant commandant of 5 MR Namsadai Peter Pamei, OC 165 Territorial Army col. Biken and other officers from 5 MR, 87 CRPF, 143 CRPF, 165 Territorial Army, 14 Sikh, 8 Assam Rifles, 37 Assam Rifles and 23 Assam Rifles attended the conference.

Contractors engaged along national highway 37 Imphal- Jiribam road and railway construction companies including Triveni Company, Bhartitya, Coastal, Onycon, ECI and Keystone Company and other contractors attended the threat analysis along National highway- 37.

Speaking on the occasion Co.l Chinmaya Verma said kidnapping of labourers are prone towards Makru river side where network is very poor.

To the query he said that at least 12 to 13 labourers who were working in NF railway construction were kidnapped for ransom since the commencement of NF Railway construction work.


However, security forces hardly able to nab the culprits. When labourers were kidnapped usually negotiation are being done through higher authority and concerned contractor, Chinmaya added.

He said that security forces has providing full proof security along national highway-37 so that the national projects is going on full swing and complete it.

The security forces were little annoyed to the officials of the NF Railway contractors for not sharing information regarding threat notice or kidnapping of its labourers in time.

Chinmaya also urged all other security forces to be more pro- active along the national highway-37 where many national projects are being taken up.


He fervently request all the contractors including road construction, NF Railway construction to share in time UGs threat notice served to them so that security forces might act over in timely.

Security forces also advised all the NF railway contractors and other constructors to import only valid and genuine workers from state or within the country to avoid confusion and misunderstanding in the future.

Chinmaya further said sharing of information regarding threat notice should be at ground level, and not from higher authority as this waste time. Security forces can track the UGs even through mobile phone. Sharing of information timely can save precious life and time, he added.

Contractors of North Eastern Frontier Railway construction also shared their grievances and progress of their works. Some contractors also expressed their gratitude to the CRPF, Assam Rifles and Manipur Rifles for security coverage.

Later security forces have another separate meeting with an aim to provide full proof security coverage to national highway-37 and national projects that are under going along national highway 37. (IFP)
