KOHIMA, Apr 27 (NEPS): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has written to five banks including Nagaland Rural Bank, Nagaland State Co-operative Bank Ltd, UCO Bank Central Bank of India and United Bank of India operating in Nagaland to open up new bank branches in strategic rural areas to enable people of the area to avail banking facilities and for implementation of Central and State Flagship Welfare Programmes.
The Governor, in the letter addressed to the Managing Directors and CEO’s, stated that he had met with bank officers and urged them to open new branches in all districts of Nagaland. He said that there were hardly any branches in other Districts of the State apart from Kohima and Dimapur. People in rural areas are unaware of the banking facilities and schemes provided by the Government through banks, the Governor added.
Acharya had a meeting with twenty Bank representatives on 9th February 2018 at Raj Bhavan Kohima and only these five banks have so far taken up the proposal of the Governor with their head offices to open branches in the other districts of Nagaland.
