IMPHAL | Apr 8 (IFP): There is a stark decrease in number of bandh, general strike and economic blockade since advent of the BJP led government, said independent social researcher, Serto Tondana Kom in a press conference held at Manipur Press club today.

During 2016-17 the total number of days of bandh and general strike was 127 and that of economic blockade was 179. For the period 2014-2015, there was 245 days of bandh and general strike while economic blockade took 43 days.

As an ultimate result to it, there is great decline in the economic loss of the state. The total lost incurred by the state due to bandh, blockade and general strike was around Rs. 354.2 crores in 2017-18 and Rs. 2,616.23 crores for the 2016-17, informed Serto.

He recalled that in 1998, Supreme Court of India had banned bandh and it was implemented in the state August 28, 1999. But the rules were unable to implement it successfully for the past many years and gives great impact to the society.
