NPCC said it would not allow “communal forces with regional forces” to destroy Nagaland

KOHIMA, Aug 27 (NEPS): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said it would not allow the “communal forces in connivance with regional forces” to destroy Nagaland as their ancestors were proud worriers and they had paid with their “life and blood to protect them.”

NPCC delegates comprising President K Therie (2nd left), Vice President V Lasuh (2nd right), General Secretary Jonathan Ao (4th left) and Chairman Media Cell Capt GK Zhimomi (3rd right) along with Dr. Joshi (right) and Dr. Jayakumar (left) meeting AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi (3rd left) on 21 August 2017 at Delhi.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NPCC made it clear that it would organize for an extensive campaign and call upon the voters in the State to “vote out the BJP-RSS and their political parties” in the coming Nagaland general elections due early next year. It, however, asserted that it did respect people of “other faiths and belief,” and in the same manner, others should also respect their “faiths, belief and way of life.”

The statement also said that NPCC delegates had a series of meetings at Delhi to finalize strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections. It said they met AICC President Sonia Gandhi on 18 August and discussed with her on the action plan prepared by NPCC. They also met Motital Vora, AICC Treasurer, Dr. CP Joshi, General Secretary AICC in-charge of NE States, and Dr. K Jayakumar, Secretary in-charge of Nagaland to fine tune the action plan that incorporated the suggestions and directives of the party President (Sonia Gandhi).

Further, on 21 August, the NPCC delegates comprising President K Therie, Vice President V Lasuh, General Secretary Jonathan Ao and Chairman Media Cell Capt GK Zhimomi along with Dr. Joshi and Dr. Jayakumar met AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi and had an hour long meeting that finalized the action strategies for 2018 assembly elections in Nagaland.

The statement also disclosed that the Congress would set up candidates in all the 60 Assembly constituencies in Nagaland. “We are for God fearing candidates who can give clean governance and rescue our people from the huge mess perpetrated by regional parties who are in cahoots with communal forces,” it said. Towards this end, NPCC will hold a state level convention in a later part of Oct 2017, in which Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has agreed to address the gathering of Congress workers that will kick start their assembly election campaigns. Former Finance Minister & Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram will also attend the event, it said.

NPCC reiterated that Nagaland and its people were “equal partners in the Union of India as provided in the Constitution and therefore shall not allow the BJP-RSS to hold our people and the state to ransom by taking advantage of regional parties who have no principles or ideology to withstand the onslaught of their communal and divisive agenda.”
