CEO Nagaland says counting of votes will be done as scheduled

KOHIMA, Jul 29 (NEPS): Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, said the counting of votes of the just concluded by-election of the 10 Northern Angami – I Assembly Constituency will be done on 3 August as scheduled.


He was replying when asked during media briefing this evening that whether the counting of votes of the just concluded by-election of the 10 Northern Angami – I Assembly Constituency would be withheld as the Supreme Court had already issued Notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) that the result of the by-election shall be subject to the outcome of the matter.

It may be mentioned that as per the media report the SC on Friday admitted the Special Leave Petition filed by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) with regard to the conduct of by-election to 10 Northern Angami – I Assembly Constituency and issued Notice to the ECI that the result of the by-election shall be subject to the outcome of the matter.


The CEO said he came to know the SC Notice issuing to ECI with regard to by-election of the 10 Northern Angami – I Assembly Constituency but disclosed that he had not received any Official Letter from the ECI with regard to it. Therefore, they would go ahead with the counting of votes of the just concluded by-election as scheduled, he added.
