ZUNHEBOTO, Jul 17 (NEPS): The culmination program of PMKSY-WDC Batch-II organised by Department of Land Resources for Zunheboto district was held at Town Hall, Zunheboto on Monday.
Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, who graced the occasion as chief guest said God showered a blessing upon Nagas by providing fertile lands and topography. He, however, lamented that Nagas were yet to make use of their lands and resources efficiently. While encouraging the beneficiaries of 16 villages who were selected for the scheme to be an agent of change by adopting dignity of labour for better economic progress, the chief guest urged beneficiaries to carry the message forward to their villages and neighbouring villages about the success and benefit of the scheme.
Kikheto also said Nagaland had ample opportunities to produce best coffee in the world for which the department had signed MOU with Coffee Board of India to start plantation in selected areas in the state. He said 68000 Rubber Plantation were under cultivation in Nagaland initiated by the Department which would benefit the cultivators and the State in terms of hundreds of crore if cultivated efficiently in the next few years.
Director, Hoto Yeptho, also spoke on the occasion. He said Zunheboto district had the potential for cultivation of cardamom and kiwi plantation while encouraging the beneficiaries not to run only after subsidies and easy money but develop work culture. He said Batch-III, IV, V and VI were awaited under the said scheme, while encouraging the farmers to cultivate with commitment and make use of the fund allotted.
Short speeches were also delivered by ADC, Zunheboto, Vekhoyi Chakhesang and President, Sumi Hoho, Hekushe Shikhu. Successful implementation of scheme was highlighted through power point presentation by DPO, V. Vikugha Sema while Hotovi Assumi and Toshili Achumi shared their experiences on the implementation of PMKSY scheme.
Earlier the program was chaired by Deputy Director, N. Kehie, welcome address by WDT (M), Logvule Tep while WDT (M), Qhenito Yeptho delivered vote of thanks. The chief guest later inaugurated the exhibition and handed over the Watershed Development Fund to all 16 villages. The program was attended by SDPO, officials from Land Resources Department and public leaders.
