KOHIMA, Feb 28: The 5-day Angami Sports Association Golden Jubilee Celebration began at Kohima Local ground (Khuochiezie) on 28th February – 2017 with the Member of Parliament, Neiphiu Rio as the chief guest during the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, he thanked the Almighty God for nurturing the association over the years which has now sprouted and reached a milestone thereby celebrating the 50th year of its inception. He also expressed his happiness to be a part of this remarkable event which he said was an honour.
On this remarkable occasion, he also lauded the contributions made and laurels brought by the past and present leaders and sportspersons who had toiled day and night for the welfare of Angami Sports Association. Stressing on the importance of sports, he said it is the most important and respected career where an individual gets wide recognition by virtue of his or her profession. As a sportsperson, he mentioned that health and mental stability is of utmost important besides maintaining strict discipline and punctuality. He further said that politics, war and even the religion divide the people but sports on contrary to that bring closeness and unity among the people irrespective of race.
Rio urged all the sportspersons to put their best effort so as to excel in whatever discipline they choose to embark on. At the same time, he also asked them to focus more on national and international level instead of limiting themselves at the regional or state level. Mentioning the popularity of wrestling, he expressed his happiness over the indigenous game practiced by our forefathers which we are still continuing with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, he asked the people to forget the past misdeeds and be embedded only with the good memories with the celebration of Golden Jubilee.
Earlier, the chief guest unfurled the flag followed by contingents marching in from 4 units namely SASA, NASA, WASA and CASA. Er. Mhasilhousie Nagi and Menuokhrielie Solo were the torch bearers for the lighting up of the tournament flame.
President ASA, Viliehu Nguzhü delivered presidential address while Methaneilie Jütakhrie together with ASA office bearers presented ASA theme song. General Secretary, ASA, Er. Zale Neikha Chaired the inaugural programme while President NCRC, Nagaland, Rev. Dr. Neikedozo Paphino invoked God’s blessing. Athletic Secretary, Khriesamhalie Santsu administered oath. Earlier, the chief guest also unveiled the monolith erected in commemoration of ASA Golden Jubilee celebration. Pastor, Baptist Church Jotsoma, Rev. Zakiebinyü Peseyie offered the dedicatory prayer while Member Secretary, Monolith committee, Khisanol Viswentso was the leader at the Monolith unveiling ceremony.
