State Election Commission postpones election process in 7 Municipal and Town Councils for two months

KOHIMA, Jan 31 (NEPS): The State Election Commission has postponed the election process in the Dimapur Municipal Council, East Dimapur Town Council, Kiphire Town Council, Tseminyu Town Council, Bhandari Town Council, Wokha Town Council and Zunheboto Town Council for two months in view of the fluid situations prevailing there.


In a notification issued on Tuesday, State Election Commissioner, Sentiyanger Imchen, said the Commission had received reports from State Home Department with regard to the fluid situations prevailing in many parts not conducive for the conduct of “free and fair polls.”

The Commission had also received the decision of the State Cabinet today forwarded by the State Government “impressing upon the Commission to postpone the election process in 7 Municipal and Town Councils.”

“Now, therefore, the Commission, after due consideration and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 30 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001, read Rule 20(7) of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2003 and in partial modification of Commission Notification of even No. dated 21/12/2016, postpones the election process,” in the Dimapur Dimapur Municipal Council, East Dimapur Town Council, Kiphire Town Council, Tseminyu Town Council, Bhandari Town Council, Wokha Town Council and Zunheboto Town Council for two months.
