National Panchayat Day observed

KOHIMA, Apr 18: The National Panchayat Day in Commemoration of 125th birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was observed here at DPDB Hall Monday.

Minister for Forest, environment and climate change, Dr. Nicky delivered greetings on the occasion where he described the life of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar who was popularly known as Babasaheb was one of the architects of the Indian constitution. Adding that his effort to eradicate the social evils likes untouchability, caste restrictions for a classless society were remarkable. He further stated that Dr. Ambedkar has made an immense contribution to the weaker section of the society, during a newborn era of India.

Dr. Nicky urged the people to dedicate themselves for the downtrodden by following the exemplary life of Dr. Ambedkar.

The Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Rovilatuo Mor, during his welcome address, said that it was a privilege and honour to recollect the contributions and achievements made by Dr. Ambedkar. He stated the celebration was a significance of his remarkable contribution made for the poorer section of the nation.

Emphasizing on the life sketch of Dr.B.R Ambedkar, Associate Professor and HOD, English department Kohima College Moanungla Kevichusa said that Dr. Ambedkar was an Economist, Sociologist, Philosopher and Anthropologist and the leader throughout his life,  fought for the rights of the downtrodden and other socially backward classes who was appointed as the Nation’s first Law Minister in cabinet after independence also posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 1990. She further stated that hard work done by him in the drafting of the constitution made it a powerful tool for social and economic empowerment of the downtrodden, which was praiseworthy. She added saying that Dr.Ambedkar’s thought in the context of today’s resurgent India which was poised for a stronger economy, industrial diversification and skill development.

Presentation of Departmental activities was given by project Director, DRDA Kevipodi Sophie, State Programme Officer, Social Welfare Department E.Yanrenthung and CDPO Kohima, NSAP, Menuokhrielie. The vote of thanks was pronounced by ADC, Kohima Lithrongla.
