MLA Torechu’s house and many vehicles damaged by angry mobs in Kiphire – SITUATION IS HIGHLY TENSE NOW

KOHIMA, Feb 7 (NEPS): After the news of unfortunate killing of a couple last night at a place between Wapher and Sekiur, National Highway 202, some 45 kilometers away from Kiphire and recovery of their dead bodies early this morning spreading, angry mobs reportedly damaged the house of local MLA Torechu in Kiphire and many vehicles were also damaged.

According to police, the couple was returning from Shamator to Kiphire and they were shot dead last night at about 6 PM at a place between Wapher and Sekiur, National Highway 202, some 45 kilometers away from Kiphire. They have been identified as Mr. Alemba Sangtam from Yangzitong Village and his wife Naro from Shamator Village. Their dead bodies were recovered by police early this morning.

Meanwhile, State Home Minister Y Patton has strongly condemned the incident, terming as "unfortunate" the killing of innocent villagers including a woman. "It should be condemned by one and all," he said in a statement issued today.

"The State Police have been directed to nab the culprits responsible for the crimes and it is the strong commitment of the state Government that, under any circumstances, it will leave no stone unturned to see that peace and tranquility are not disturbed in the region," the Home Minister said.

Sources disclosed that the situation is highly tense as of now in Kiphire areas.
