Government considering to tranform Moreh into education hub: Minister

IMPHAL, December 30: Education minister, Moirangthem Okendro today inspected the ongoing construction work of Block Institute of Teachers Education (BITE) and Government Polytechnic at Moreh, and at the laid the foundation stone for the construction of Students’ Short Stay Home inside the Moreh college campus today.

Speaking during the event, the minister informed that plans are afoot to develop the border town in every aspect not only in infrastructure.


He also asserted that the Manipur Government is also considering to transform convert the border town into Education hub.

The minister and his team first visited the construction site of the Government polytechnic followed by the BITE site.

The Moreh polytechnic is one of the six new polytechnics and the BITE is among five sanctioned by the government.


Funding for the construction of the structures are shared between the Centre and the State in the ratio of 90:10.

The target for completion of the Students’ Short Stay Home has been set for three months.

Further in his speech, the minister said that the design of the Home will be based on typical Myanmar style adding that all the requirements ranging from raw materials, labour will be procured or hired from Myanmar.

Tengnoupal MLA D Korungthang, also appealed the people of Moreh to extend their co-operation in the initiative taken up by the government in developing the border town.

DIG, Dr S Ibocha, Chief Engineer of Education Engineering Wing, Ch Gojendro and other officials of the relevant departments were also part of the Ministerial team.
