CHUMUKEDIMA, Nov 3 (NEPS): Union Minister for Road Transaport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari, today 3rd November 2015 laid the foundation stone for four laning of Dimapur- Kohima Road near Chathe River Bridge, Patkai College junction Chumukedima.
On the occasion,Minister Gadkari announced that projects approved by the Government of India and under preparation of DPR are;
- NH-39 Kohima – Imphal road covering a distance of 126 kms at the cost of Rs. 1250 crores.
- Paren – Dimapur road, a distance of 63kms at the cost of Rs. 364 crore and
- Kohima Dimapur bye-pass road covering distance of 61kms at a cost of Rs. 550 crore.
Union Minister has urged the Chief Minister Nagaland to arrange forest and environment clearance and also land acquisition progress at the earliest, so that work can start before March 2016.
Further, the Union Minister also informed about his intention to start an additional project of 15000 crore in Nagaland next year and asked the Chief Minister Nagaland to take the confidence of the people.
Gadgari further announced for Rs. 250 crore packages for NH falling within the city limits of Kohima and Dimapur covering a distance of 25kms.
The Minister re-iterated the central Ministry’s decision in according highest priority for development of North East and for which it has decided to make roads of more than 10,000kms costing approximately 1 lakh crore within 5(five) years. Gadkari also announced that out of the 1 lakh crore projects to be executed in North East, 23 projects of 744 kms costing 10,491 cores has already been started.
He further informed that the ministry has decided to start 20 more projects this year, covering 900 kms stretch and costing 10 crores.
He maintained that North East and the people of Nagaland needs to explore possibilities of development and underscored employment potential as the need of the state. Pointing out Agriculture and industrial development as two important sectors for development of a country, the Union Ministry observed North East as a land full of minerals. He further observed that North East has tremendous potentials where tourism projects could be started.
He stated that Central Ministry under the leadership of Narendar Modi which is committed for progress and development has been facing problems of poverty and unemployment. Towards this he opined as, “Politics is an instrument of socio-economic reform and it is a system by which we can implement appropriate policies to eradicate poverty and increase employment potential”.
The Union Minister further suggested to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, for building the capacity of the Nagaland contractors in order to create more employment opportunities to the people of Nagaland. Gadkari also reminded that strong political will was essential to make infrastructure development take place at a faster pace.
On the occasion the Union Minister also suggested to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for coal gasification as an appropriate project, taking the advantage of the large coal deposits in Nagaland.
Gadkari also mooted the idea for planning a vision document and assured that if appropriate policies for development thereby creating employment potentials are framed infrastructure would be his responsibility. “If Employment Potential is increased it will increase the GDP”, he added.
Gadkari stated that the Central Ministry is committed for progress and development of Nagaland and is ready to support in the areas of Agriculture and Industry too. “It is a mission for us as we are all part and parcel of one nation”, he added. Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari unveiled the monolith of the 4 lane NH-29 foundation stone.
Governor of Nagaland P.B. Acharya who was also present, said that when assurances are converted into reality, Nagaland would march ahead, as the state stands 2nd to none.
He lauded the Central Government for committing to develop North East without any discrimination, and reminded Modi’s words, “Unless North East develops India cannot develop”.
Chief Minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang termed the day as historic moment for the Nagas and expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for personally coming to lay the foundation stone of the 4 lane Dimapur Kohima NH-29.
To the local contractors, he appealed to them to execute the works with professionalism and to show that they are 2nd to none, while the Minister has assured to help them. His advice to the landowners was to be reasonable and to cooperate with the Government reminding them that road will remain with the people of Nagaland.
On the occasion Zeliang also acknowledged the officials from MoRTH for their tireless service rendered in making the dream of the Nagas to have 4 lanes a reality.
In the short programme organized by NHIDCL, MoRTH and works and Housing Department Nagaland, Pastor TBC Chumukedima invoked God’s blessings, while Chumukedima Cultural Troup presented folk song.
The programme was attended by hosts of Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, bureaucrats, party workers and Officials form MoRTH and NHIDCL. (DIPR)
