KOHIMA, Sept 30: The Department of Information & Public Relations (IPR) organized, a first of its kind, one day workshop on cable TV Digitisation for nodal officers at IPR conference hall, Kohima on Tuesday.
Secretary, IPR & State Nodal Officer of Digital Address System (DAS), N. Hushili Sema IAS in her address said that digitization with addressability is to be implemented on priority in phases. She said that digitization enables efficient utilization of the spectrum bandwidth available on the cable and thereby drastically enhances the capacity to carry channels on cable. She said that it brings in transparency as the signals of the cable operator are encrypted and can be received only through a set top box after due authorization from the service provider. She also emphasized on legal framework for operation of Cable TV Service, regulations by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and steps taken for implementation in phase wise manner.
Joint Director Tokishe Sema, in his powerpoint presentation, spoke about guidelines for the District Monitoring Committee, its functions and to provide a forum where the public may lodge a complaint and to keep a watch on contents carried by Cable TV channels at local level. Tokishe also spoke about the website www.mib.nic.in and for the public to call on their number to inquire about necessary informations, rules and encourage the TV operators to carry mandatory channels in their TV network.
District Public Relation Officer Dimapur Lolano Patton highlighted on the expectations for District Nodal Officers, to check the level of preparedness by MSO and LCO and advantages of digitilisation of Cable TV network for the customers and subscribers. She also said that digitilisation of Cable TV should be transparent and the need for Cable TV network registration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting as multi system operator (MSO).
The programme was chaired by Additional Director Limawati, and welcome address was given by Director, IPR, Pausui Zeliang. Vote of thanks was delivered by Joint Director, Dominic Yazokie. Besides the District Nodal Officers, MSOs and LCOs cable operators from all over Nagaland attended the workshop.
